THINGS TO DO
Floyd's Pelican Bar
Visiting Floyd’s Pelican Bar in Jamaica is definitely something to brag about. Floyd’s Pelican Bar is a tiny bar made of driftwood stilted on a huge sandbar about ¾ mile out in the sea.
Floyd’s Pelican Bar is located in Parottee Bay on the South Coast of Jamaica and has to be one of the most unique places to eat and have a drink in the entire world – hands down the best bar in the Caribbean!
To get there you have to take a 20-minute boat ride to this rustic establishment in the middle of the ocean.
Once there you can sunbathe, swim in the shallow ocean water, drink a cold beer and eat some fresh lobster or fish (order food ahead of time).
Not a great swimmer? That’s okay because the water is only waist deep.
The atmosphere at Floyd’s Pelican Bar is truly a local one.
The décor inside is really one of a kind and very special. The inside is covered in relics from many parts of the world so do not forget to bring something personal to leave behind.
Treasure Beach
Treasure Beach is a six-mile stretch of coral-coloured and sometimes black sands, private coves and rocky shores. For travellers who want to discover the South Coast’s vibrant local culture and people and are in search of untrodden beaches, a visit to one of Treasure Beach’s main bays – Billy's, Calabash, Fort Charles (also known as Starve Gut) Great and Frenchman’s – is a must.
Local Flavour:
Treasure Beach's freshly caught fish and seafood cooked with local spices and ground provisions.
Famous For:
The many bays and inlets that mark the coastline.
Don't Miss:
The Treasure Beach Triathlon held each year. Swim, bike and hike through the scenic communities around Treasure Beach
Y.S FALLS
YS Falls is a nature-based attraction offering the opportunity to experience the beauty of the waterfalls surrounded by lush gardens and magnificent trees.
There are seven waterfalls, several of which cascade into natural pools.
Lifeguards on site, indicate which areas are for swimming, however, being able to swim is a requirement. There is a natural pool, fed by underground and above-ground springs, which is more suitable for children and others unable to swim.
More recent additions to the attractions at YS Falls include exhilarating canopy rides, which glide from the top of the falls to its base. These adventures are accompanied by experienced guides to take care of you along the way.
There are bathrooms at the ticket office, where tickets are purchased in order to board the tractor and jitney for the 10-minute journey to the waterfalls compound. Here at the ticket office, there is an eatery (grill-style) and a bar and gift shop (stocked with local crafts).
At the waterfalls, there are changing rooms and an environmentally friendly toilet (compost).
Rainy months are May and October and at this time the river generally comes down in spate and swimming may be suspended.
